Stage Balsa is the lightest commercial timber on the market by a large margin; a traditional set building material such as Pine weighs between 350-660kg per cubic meter, with Stage Balsa weighing on average only 140kg per cubic meter: 2.5 – 4.5 times lighter in weight compared to pine. This reduction in weight allows you to use Stage Balsa to build lightweight sets, frames and flats which can be handled much easier than normal, allowing for a reduction in crew and rigging, or even negating the need for a crane in many cases. The StageBalsa differs from normal Balsa as its made from finger jointing small pieces of Balsa together giving flexibility to do almost any size needed. Lighter weight can make securing your set easier and reduce safety risks on set. The light weight of balsa also lends it to replacing foam and plastic in prop applications – when correctly sealed it offers excellent buoyant properties and is one of the most highly sought after materials worldwide for a composite core applications.
