University of Southern Queensland – Creative Arts and Media
Education for small screen drama production
The University of Southern Queensland’s (USQ) new broadcast media centre at USQ Springfield supports our vision for the delivery of education in media and Small Screen drama production, with the Bachelor of Creative Arts (Film, Television & Radio) and the Graduate Certificate of Digital Production and Performance (GCDP) being taught in the centre.
The fully integrated media suite includes a high-definition production studio incorporating green screen, infinity cyclorama, full blacks and DMX controlled LED lighting, a talent operated and two state of the art radio studios linked to the integrated video network, along with production offices, a green room, make-up room and meeting rooms, all set-up to offer students an industry-like learning experience.
From 2016, USQ will offer a unique hands-on Graduate Certificate. The Graduate Certificate of Digital Production and Performance focuses on drama production for the small screen and includes screenwriting, acting and TV production streams.
Providing professional preparation for screen production the GCDP allows students to develop their craft in acting, scriptwriting or TV production with practising professionals in an industry-like setting. On completion students will have collaborated with peers and industry experts to produce an original, polished pilot for an episodic production.
The GCDP is ideal for those with an undergraduate degree in a related field, who may have earned some stripes crewing or working on amateur productions, or who’ve even had some commercial work, but the dream of working full-time in the media is still out of reach.
